Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) Information

• What is VPK? Voluntary pre-kindergarten (or voluntary preschool) is also known as VPK. This is a program for 4- and 5-year-olds in Florida, who are eligible to receive Florida's free VPK education program.
  • School Year Program: 540 hours of instructional time OR
  • Summer Program: 300 hours of instructional time
• Why choose VPK? VPK is an educational program to help young minds prepare for elementary school. VPK can enhance reading, math, language and social skills for young children. It can promote an early love for learning.
• Registering for VPK Voucher Requirements: 
  • Must complete an online application or at the nearest ELC site.
  • Upload or bring in child's proof of Florida residency (utility bill, bank statement, mortgage/lease documents, etc)
  • Upload or bring in child's birth certificate or passport
  • Upload or bring in child's immunization record, signed by the physician
  • Child must be 4-years-old on or before September 1st of the VPK school year
• Choosing a VPK:
  • Call the facility to see if they have openings for VPK for the 2023 - 2024 school year
  • Schedule a tour. Just like any other child care facility, you want to know what the facility looks like on the inside. 
  • Ask lots of questions. Don't be afraid to interview the director. They understand that you want the best fit for your little one.
  • Choose your child's new VPK and submit the VPK voucher and any documents necessary. Trust your gut!

Preschool Pass

• What is a preschool pass?
• Who is eligible? Most theme parks offer free admission for children ages 2 and under. The preschool pass is geared towards the preschool age group (ages 3-5). Check with the parks for acceptable documentation (age-identifying paperwork and proof of Florida residency).
• Who offers preschool passes in Florida?
  • Busch Gardens & Adventure Island, Tampa Bay: Must be a Florida resident. Registration for the preschool card ends February 26, 2023. You must activate the card by visiting the park before March 13, 2023. Preschool pass can be used for the duration of 2023. 
  • Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island: Must be a Florida resident. Registration for the preschool card ends February 19, 2023. Preschool pass can be used for the duration of 2023. 
    • Save up to 30% on General Admission with CertifiKID
  • SeaWorld & Aquatica Orlando, Orlando: Must be a Florida resident. Registration for the preschool card ends February 3, 2023. You must activate the card by visiting the park before February 28, 2023. Preschool pass can be used for the duration of 2023.
