Adoptable Pets

All of our animals are screened for health and temperament, spayed or neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies and they are micro-chipped.

As a private, nonprofit organization that relies completely on private donations and its own fundraising abilities to operate the fees collected from the adoption of each animal help to offset some of the costs involved in providing care for the animals and preparing for placement into a new home.

The average cost to shelter, care and prepare our pets for adoption is on average $318. The fees we charge for adoption have given your new pet all the things to have a great new start with you. They have been examined by our veterinarian staff; given up to date vaccinations; been spay or neutered; microchipped and a free office visit at the GCHS Veterinarian Clinic is included; screened for health and temperament; as well as fed and cared for by our shelter staff.

*Adoption fees include: spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and free office visit at the GCHS Clinic.

How To Adopt

  1. Check out the current list of adoptable cats or dogs online, then stop by the shelter during operating hours.
  2. Complete an application form and chat with shelter staff to ensure that you are prepared and understand what adopting a furry family member entails.
  3. To ensure a smooth transition, we recommend a meet and greet, at the Gulf Coast Humane Society, with all members of your home (dogs, children, and adults).
  4. Once you've found your purr-fect new family member and your adoption application is approved, prepare your home for the new family member (set up their safe-space, kennel, food and water dishes, etc).
  5. If you've adopted a dog, it's always a great idea to enroll in obedience training to train both you and your new pet for your new adventure together!
