Cape Coral Animal Shelter is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. They are dedicated to engaging a special bond between people and animals by means of adoption services, medical care, education and training for the prevention of cruelty and abandonment. The Cape Coral Animal Shelter (CCAS) will provide a safe place where animals will receive the care they need and remain until they are placed in a qualified, forever home.
CCAS is home to 12 dog kennels and 3 cat rooms on-site, CCAS has found loving forever homes for over 3,000 homeless and abandoned animals. On any given day, we average 120 animals in our care. With plans for expansion of our facility underway, now more than ever we are called to make a difference by spreading more love and continuing to save lives.

Hazardous Foods:
- Chocolate (toxic to both dogs and cats)
- Onions/Chives
- Salt
- Citrus/Pits (these contain essential oils that have the ability to cause irritations, blockages, and central nervous system depression)
- Bones (may easily splinter and cause health problems - especially cooked bones and pork bones)
- Raisins/Grapes (may cause kidney problems)
- Coffee/Adult Beverages (may become weak, ill, or go into respiratory failure)
- Sweets, Candy, Gum (may cause liver failure)
- Turkey and turkey skin (may cause pancreatitis)
- Table Scraps (can be fatty and hard to digest, causing pancreatitis)
- Yeast Dough (may cause painful gas and dangerous bloating)
Decorating Dangers:
- Unsecured Christmas Trees/Ornaments (may fall/break or be ingested causing blockage/punctures)
- Water Additives like fertilizers, Aspirin or Sugar (pets may drink this water)
- Tinsel or Garland (may cause blockages or curious cats may climb them)
- Lights/Cords (watch for pets chewing cords - may cause fire or electrocution)
- Plants Toxic to Dogs and Cats (amaryllis, mistletoe, balsam, pine, cedar, holly and poinsettias can be dangerous and toxic to pets)
- Candles (may cause fire if unattended, pets may knock them over)
- Liquid Potpourris and essential oils (some are toxic to pets)
Visitors and Traveling:
- Ensure your pet has a safe spot to retreat too if overwhelmed (prevents bites based off of fear or accidents happening)
- Ensure exits are blocked and pets cannot escape and run away
- Ensure pets have on ID's and microchips are up to date
- Train your guests - ensure all other people know how to interact with your pet and know warning signs - ensure guests don't feed your pets
- Ensure trash is inaccessible to curious pets
- Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle
- Pack extra necessities for your pet (think medicines, food, toys, medical records, etc)

CCAS offers a quality and affordable vet service to the community. Appointments are required. Call 239-573-2002 extension 106 to schedule an appointment. When you arrive for your pet's scheduled appointment, use the clinic entrance (facing south/right side of the building, toward Sun Splash).

The first step to volunteering is to apply via our GivePulse portal. Once you've created an account and submitted an application, you will be notified of the approval and be able to sign up for New Volunteer Orientation. Different ways in which you can volunteer, include:

- Note: Unfortunately, there are no volunteer opportunities in our clinic at this time.

In order to become a foster parent, you must have an approved volunteer application and completed the following orientations: New Volunteer, Foster Orientation, Green Dog Walker Orientation. You will receive emails from the foster coordinator, Kelly, when there are animals in need of a foster home. If you have pets, they must be up to date on all vaccines prior to applying for a foster.
CCAS provides everything you need to care for your foster at home (crates, food, medicines, etc). All you need to provide is shelter, any applicable socialization/training, and transportation to/from meet-and-greets and vet visits (if necessary).

As both a veterinary clinic and animal shelter, CCAS relies on donations from supporters like you! You can donate supplies via Chewy and Amazon wish lists, or find needed items from the list and drop them off at the shelter!
Another option is a monetary donation which can be set up to be one-time, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually!
Are you considering adopting a furry member to add to your family? The first step is to ensure that adoption is a good choice for your family.
Things to consider prior to adoption include:
- Will they have their own space?
- Is any family member allergic, to your knowledge?
- Will you have time to crate-train, potty-train, leash-train, socialize, etc?
- Have you found a trustworthy local veterinarian?
- Do you have other pets at home that would need to be introduced first?
- Have you done research on what breed, size, and gender of pet you'd like? For example, a large-breed Shephard may not be best suited for small apartment living. A smaller breed Chihuahua may be perfect.
- Do they match your lifestyle? Are you an active family or do you prefer being a couch-potato? Do you travel a lot, hike a lot, enjoy the outdoors, etc?
- Do you own or rent? Does your HOA/landlord approve of the animal? Do you have a fenced in yard?
- Are you prepared to clean up after your pet? Changing the litter box daily, cleaning up doggy-poop regularly?
- Are you prepared for the cost of owning an animal? This includes regular vet visits, annual vaccinations, emergency vet visits, food, license, toys, etc.

**Most kittens and adult cats enjoy having a feline buddy in their homes. Many times this helps them adjust faster to their new homes and makes them happier pets. As such, we offer a “two-fur” adoption on all kitten and adult cat adoptions on the same day from our facility. Just ask any staff member for details**

It's true! If you're not ready or able to re-home a cat or a dog, we've got critters for you! Cape Coral Animal Shelter partners with Petsmart #3055 (2415 Tarpon Bay Boulevard, Naples) to handle adoptions for these critters: guinea pigs, rats, birds, reptiles and hamsters.
