Dog parks and play areas in Fort Myers & the Beach

Dog park etiquette tips as well

By Arianna Dabu, Macaroni KID Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach August 27, 2022

We are lucky in Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach to have many great dog parks to enjoy with our favorite pups. Dog parks are a great place for our pups to play unleashed and meet new friends! Not sure about how dog parks work or if your dog is ready for one? Check out our etiquette and rules tips at the bottom of this story.

Big bonus: Dog parks in Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach are FREE! That being said, did you know that you can rent out places for your dog to play? You can! Sniff Spot is a great resource to "rent" other people's property by the hour -- I saw listings for as low as $4/hour! You are able to filter your search by fenced or not, larger areas, no other dogs/animals/people, etc! Might be a great resource for those who don't have a space to take their dog, and aren't quite comfortable at a dog park!

Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach dog park tips

Follow the rules! Typical dog park rules include:

  • Dogs must be spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines and shots, and supervised at all times.
  • Unless inside of a designated off-lead dog park, while in public areas, all dogs must be kept under control on a leash no more than six feet in length.
  • Do not let your dog run at large at a park, unless it is a designated off-lead and dog-friendly area.
  • Know your dog: If you have a dog that has shown aggression toward other animals, children, or adults, it's best to leave them at home.
  • Taking your kids? Supervise them closely! Let them know that running and loud play aren't a good idea around dogs they don't know well, and teach them the correct way to approach a dog to pet it, with its owners approval.
  • Don't bring snacks or lunch. It only invites begging and aggressive behaviors.
  • Be polite and considerate of other park users. Common sense prevails!

Pet Waste & Cleanup:

  • Clean up after your pooch! No one wants to step in that mess.
  • Undisposed of pet waste degrades water quality and feeds algae that kills creatures in our water.
  • Pet waste can carry parasites, parvovirus, and many pathogens that cause sicknesses.
  • Don't let pet waste sit for more than a couple of days in your yard, as it will kill the grass in that area as well.
