Where is this summer going? It's hard to believe it's August already. We've rounded up a list of 7 things you can do in August with your kids in Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach to make the most of the month!

1. Spend time with your neighbors  |  Aug. 2nd

National Night Out, Aug. 2, is all about COMMUNITY! Get out there and meet your Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach neighbors at one of Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach great National Night Out events.

2. Sneak some zucchini onto your neighbor’s porch  |  Aug. 8th 

Did you know there's actually a "holiday" for this? Yep, Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Day is Aug. 8. Celebrate by ... well you know what to do. 

3. Read a book  |  Aug. 9th

There's never a bad time to pick up a book, but if you're looking for an excuse, National Book Lovers Day is Aug. 9. Better yet, take your kids to a local bookstore or the Lee County Library to find a new read!

4. International Youth Day  |  Aug. 12th

This year's theme for International Youth Day is Intergenerational Solidarity. It is the UN's goal to "create a world for all ages!"

5. Go thrifting!  |  Aug. 17th

National Thrift Shop Day is Aug. 17. Stock up on school clothes and get something fun for yourself, all while supporting the locally-owned Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach thrift stores.

6. Ride a roller coaster  |  Aug. 16th

While there aren't any huge theme parks in our neck of the woods, kids never say no to a visit to FastTrax! Surprise them with a trip to celebrate National Roller Coaster Day Aug. 16. How many times can they ride the Cobra Coaster? Looking for a day trip to a theme park? Check out Busch Gardens in Tampa, Universal Studios in Orlando, or Uncle Bernie's in Lauderhill (Miami).

7. National Aviation Day  |  Aug. 19th

Stop by RSW or Page Field with your kids and watch the airplanes take off and land! It may be a little loud, so you can always bring headphones to cover their ears! Bonus points if you bring snacks or a meal for a picnic while watching and talking about all things Aviation!

8. Go geocaching!  |  Aug. 20th

Kids love the thrill of the treasure hunt and you'll love that it's a chance to explore the outdoors in Fort Myers - Fort Myers Beach with your kids on Aug. 20, National Geocaching Day. Geocaching is simple with a smartphone!  Find out how to do it here. 

9. Pluto Demoted Day  |  Aug. 24th

Did you know that Pluto is no longer considered a planet? I was shocked to hear that all the science books I grew up with, were no longer correct!

10. Women's Equality Day  |  Aug. 26th

Women's Equality Day marks the day that the 19th amendment was passed, granting women the right to vote! The holiday was first designated in 1971.

11. Dog Day  |  Aug. 26th

Sorry cat-lovers, today is all about the doggies! Show your pup some extra loving today! Don't have a pup? Our shelters are literally overflowing with animals in need of a new home. Consider taking a visit to your local shelter and learning about how to foster/adopt a new fur-baby!

12. Eat Outside Day  |  Aug. 31st

I know, the Florida summer heat is pretty brutal ... why not try a quick breakfast outside with lots of cool items? Think cereal, cold fruits and ice-cold lemonade!

13. National Breastfeeding Month  |  Aug. 1-31

National Breastfeeding Month was officially enacted in 2011, and this year's theme is "Together, we do great things!" 

14. Children's Eye Health & Safety Month  |  Aug. 1-31
